Our History

Our Formation Story

LBI Foundation was born from a clear vision — to grow thriving people and communities by making the science of wellbeing, trauma and growth practical, accessible and sustainable in everyday life.

In 2016, Dr Ivan Raymond developed the IMPACT Program, built on over 15 years of clinical trauma work, multiple collaborations and doctoral research. Scientifically grounded and evidence-informed, IMPACT was created to make complex science (1) practical, (2) translatable and (3) “sticky” in real-world action — ensuring that wellbeing and trauma knowledge could be applied meaningfully across settings.

To bring this vision to life, Ivan founded the Life Buoyancy Institute, introducing IMPACT into education, child protection and community sectors. Between 2016 and 2018, IMPACT provided the foundational framework for SAHMRI’s $1.1 million “Resilient Futures” initiative, supporting 1,400 young South Australians from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Through this initiative, IMPACT gave schools, mental health services and community organisations the shared language, knowledge, skills and methods to:

  • Understand and respond to the deeper needs driving wellbeing, learning and life outcomes.

  • Teach core wellbeing and resilience skills tailored to diverse individuals and contexts.

  • Work together with shared intent to achieve outcomes important to them.

The program demonstrated the capacity to create sustainable ripple effects that extended from individuals to organisations, to communities and across systems.

Founded on these outcomes, the LBI Foundation was formally established in 2018 as a not-for-profit organisation to expand the reach and impact of this work. In 2020, LBI achieved registration as a Public Benevolent Institution with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status through the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission (ACNC).

Today, LBI Foundation leads the development, delivery, and distribution of the IMPACT Program — a flexible, scientifically grounded capacity-building approach that empowers individuals and communities to create lasting impact through personalised solutions and real-world action.

Our mission remains steadfast: to build wellbeing and trauma-responsive communities where the science of growth and connection becomes a shared way of thinking and being — not just another initiative, but a movement toward collective thriving.

“The growth, refinement, and consolidation of LBI Foundation is the culmination of many people’s energy, knowledge and skill. Every past and present team member has left a meaningful mark and lasting impact on who we are today. Our journey reflects the collective wisdom, passion and commitment of all who have contributed along the way. With deep appreciation and gratitude — thank you.”
